In this world, there are followers and there are leaders. Para USA clearly falls into the latter category. Under the leadership of the late Ted Szabo, Para has been a driving force in the evolution of the 1911 pistol.
Two decades ago, Para became the first firm to offer a high-capacity 1911. With magazine capacity rivaling that of a hi-cap 9mm, offering almost twice the payload of a standard 1911, the concept was quickly copies by competitors. Another Para |
innovation was the Power Extractor (PXT). Next to defective magazines, extractor failure is the next leading cause of 1911 stoppages. The Power Extractor claw is 50 percent larger than the standard 1911 extractor and gets a much bigger bite on the fired case, which pretty much eliminates the possibility of a double feed.

Trigger stroke on the LDA Nite-Tac requires a long stroke like a
DA, yet it is relatively light like a SA. |

My personal favorite innovation from Para remains the LDA trigger (Light Double Action). The LDA allows the user to carry the pistol with the hammer down. Unlike double-action-only (DAO) and double-action/single-action (DA/SA) pistols, the trigger pull is relatively light throughout the firing cycle. Most shooters will perform to a higher standard with this system, particularly for that critical first shot.
From a mechanical standpoint, I don't think the LDA would qualify as a true double-action, but that's not the point. Hit potential with the Para LDA approaches that of a SA pistol but without the baggage associated with cocked-and-locked carry. |
